Conversations with Business Leaders in recent months have identified some key themes keeping Leaders awake at night. Challenges are many and varied in the current climate but when we distil it down, the overarching issues are common across most organisations right now.
Top of the list is an ongoing challenge around talent shortages and skill gaps. Most businesses do not feel they have the people with the skills or competencies they need in certain areas of their business.
Those that are on the front foot are prioritising L&D in 2025 with a focus on leadership development to ensure Leaders are coaching and mentoring their teams to keep them engaged and developing new skills as well as skill-based development programs to retrain / upskill their workforce in key areas.
Our experience has proven what is most valuable when it comes to designing L&D programs – to ensure that programs are effective they need to start with a focus on:

Alignment with business goals – ensure that programs are directly tied to the organisation’s strategic objectives and desired performance outcomes
Customised learning experiences and content – to ensure programs are meaningful they need to speak to employees in their language, reflect the culture of the organisation and engage them in a meaningful way
Understand employee capability and needs – a competency matrix will assist in being able to assess current capability and competency gaps that can be targeted through customised programs for greater relevance and impact
Embrace coaching over training – a coaching program encourages participant involvement, helping learners grow and develop through challenging them to think and learn rather than being told what to do by a “trainer”
Continuous review and feedback – all programs need to be reviewed and evaluated consistently with feedback sought from all involved to ensure they continue to meet the evolving needs of the business
As we launch the first of our coaching programs for 2025, we continue to discuss new learning opportunities with clients and update our content and programs to meet their changing needs. What is top of your agenda for developing your team this year?
